What to Expect on Your First Wheelchair-Accessible Ride

A walkthrough of what happens before, during, and after a wheelchair-accessible transportation trip with Allegiance, for first-time riders.

← Back to Resources

If you or a family member has never used wheelchair-accessible medical transportation before, knowing what to expect can make the first trip much less stressful.

Before Your Ride

When scheduling, we’ll ask about the pickup and destination addresses, appointment time, and any mobility equipment or assistance needed, so the right vehicle and crew are ready.

During Pickup

Our crew will assist with getting into the vehicle and properly secure the wheelchair for the ride. If stairs, a ramp, or a narrow doorway are involved, let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.

During the Ride

Wheelchairs are secured using proper tie-down equipment for the duration of the trip. If a companion is riding along, there’s typically room for one passenger in addition to the rider.

Arrival and Drop-Off

Our crew will help with drop-off at the destination entrance. As with any trip, exact pickup and return timing is confirmed directly with you rather than guaranteed automatically by an online request.
