How to Schedule a Medicaid-Covered Ride to Your Appointment

A step-by-step look at how to get a Medicaid-covered ride booked with Allegiance, from confirming eligibility to pickup.

Scheduling a Medicaid-covered ride involves one extra step compared to a private-pay trip: authorization through your plan’s transportation broker. Here’s how the process generally works.

Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility

Check that your appointment qualifies for the NEMT benefit and that you know which broker administers your plan — usually ModivCare or SafeRide in North Carolina. Your Medicaid ID card or plan member services line can confirm this.

Step 2: Request or Authorize the Trip Through Your Broker

Most brokers want advance notice — often a few business days — to authorize a trip, though exact windows vary by plan. This is typically done by phone or through the broker’s member portal.

Step 3: Allegiance Confirms and Schedules the Ride

Once a trip is authorized and assigned to us, we confirm pickup details directly with you or your facility. As with any request, a specific pickup time isn’t guaranteed until we’ve confirmed it — we’ll follow up to finalize scheduling.

  • Have ready: your Medicaid ID number
  • Appointment date, time, and location
  • Any mobility equipment you’ll need (wheelchair, bariatric, etc.)
